Three connected story arcs in 2027

At the October 3, 2026 RuneScape Summit, Jagex organised the 2027 roadmap around three story arcs. Each was planned to run for around four months, connecting quests, bosses and skilling to a part of Gielinor.

The three arcs are Hoard of Dragons, The City of Gnomes and Secrets of Karamja. The roadmap also includes Remastered Journey work and a wider set of restoration updates for the game's interfaces, grouping and everyday interactions.

Hoard of Dragons and Dragon Slayer II

The first arc was announced for January 2027. Dragon Slayer II follows a gilded dragon leaving destruction across Gielinor and takes players to Dragon Isle, where a ruined stronghold sits above a dragon nest.

Oziach's past, his knowledge of Elvarg and his connection to the island's forgotten order are part of the story. Plans for the island also include stealing dragon eggs with Thieving, hatching them with Firemaking and hunting Gilded Dragons for scales used to reforge armour. Exploring hidden vaults leads toward the Grand Treasure Room.

Grandmaster clues and an Agility rework

The clue expansion includes Grandmaster clue scrolls, with Uri's trials opening up a dragon's dungeon. The announced challenges involve bosses, timed tasks, high-level skilling and travel around Gielinor.

Rewards announced at the Summit include a Gilded Dye, plans for new Player-Owned House furniture and the meerkat pet Meek. Aurora and Soul dyes were planned to return through the clue update. A short introductory quest with Zaida and work on entry barriers such as the Globetrotter outfit are also part of the plans.

For Agility, Jagex was exploring run-energy changes and integrating Surge, Dive and Escape into the skill, with a possible new movement ability still under consideration. Existing courses were set for a revamp, offering quicker, more involved routes and slower, less active options.

The Agility rework was my favourite reveal. Less active training options could finally make me want to push the skill beyond where I've left it.

The City of Gnomes and Arposandra

The second arc was announced for summer 2027. Its Grandmaster quest, The Curse of Arposandra, takes players into the hidden gnome city and brings the long-running Glouphrie story to its finale.

Completing the quest unlocks Arposandra, where players can take part in skilling, combat, mysteries and achievements. Glouphrie the Untrusted is also planned as a solo boss using illusion magic.

The arc includes remastering all six existing gnome quests, updating the gnomes, Tree Gnome Stronghold and Tree Gnome Village, and adding post-quest content for players who have already completed the story.

Argento's Nightmare

Argento's Nightmare is the community skilling boss announced with The City of Gnomes. Players enter the Spirit Tree Realm to help free Argento from nightmares caused by Glouphrie's corruption.

The encounter uses Woodcutting, Firemaking, Divination and Farming to clear pollution. Jagex described one non-instanced encounter per world, running apart from a short respawn timer. You can arrive and join the people already taking part without organising a group first.

Secrets of Karamja and the Temple of Ah Za Rhoon

The third arc's headline reveal is the Temple of Ah Za Rhoon raid. Players join the Archaeology Guild on an expedition into the Karamjan jungle and the temple's hidden depths, going far below the location connected to Shilo Village.

The raid involves an undead horde and several bosses, ending with the Witch Queen. The wider arc explores Karamja's history, its connection to Zamorak worship and Acting Guildmaster Reiniger's ties to a secret organisation. More of the arc was due to be revealed in 2027.

The Road to Restoration alongside the new content

The announced restoration plans include a unified collection log, a reworked grouping system, a clan finder and clan improvements, a Quest Timeline rework, more Remastered Journey updates and frequent rebalances and cleanups.

Jagex also named clickboxes, unwanted camera movement, busy-world performance and characters stopping when interacting with inventory items. The Ninja team was returning to focus on restoration and smaller player requests.

Having to spam-click to stop pickpocketing and do something else is exactly the sort of irritation I hope this work fixes.

The 2026 announcements around the roadmap

The Summit also announced the Remastered Journey's early-game work and an optional Adventure Guide to suggest quests, activities and places to explore. The plugins beta subsequently opened on October 6.

Reignited was originally announced for December 2 with a fresh economy and separate character rules. Jagex began reassessing it on October 6 and shared possible revisions on October 9. Those included using existing membership and changing restrictions on playing together, with feasibility checks still outstanding. The roadmap's new content was announced for all character types. The Reignited updates are linked below.
